Factors contributing to many divorces

On Behalf of | Aug 25, 2016 | Divorce |

Whether you are divorced, getting a divorced or contemplating a divorce, you may be reflecting on the various things that led you to that place. Despite what many people in Illinois may think, it is not always a major event like an affair that influences people’s decisions to end their marriages. The fact of the matter is that these things are highly complex and multifaceted.

One area of challenge for couples is the ability to find a balance between being individuals and being a couple. As the Huffington Post explains, completely losing one’s own self can be detrimental but so too can the lack of any shared interests or activities. Another risk for couples with kids is putting all of their energies into the kids and even further forgetting themselves individually or collectively.

Couples who lack a shared vision for their marriages are also at risk for divorce. Each person may work toward a goal in different ways but it is important that both are headed in the same direction. Lack of financial compatibility may also be a problem for people as it can create more conflict about how to spend money, regardless of how much money a couple has to spend. Some marriages may simply not get off on the right start. This can happen if one spouse fails to call off an engagement because they feel they are too far in to do so even though there are flags suggesting that is the right course of action.
