R. Kelly’s ex-wife seeks unpaid child support

On Behalf of | Mar 10, 2014 | Child Support |

For those in Lake County, Illinois who are struggling to make ends meet, a late or missed child support payment can very problematic. Many custodial parents rely heavily on these payments in order to provide the necessities of life for their children. When a payment is late or missed, some parents are forced to choose which necessities are the most important and the child oftentimes has to go without.

Singer R. Kelly is in hot water after allegedly failing to make child support payments to his ex-wife and mother of his three children. Apparently this isn’t the first time he has fallen behind in his child support obligations. Last year he owed $100,000 dollars in back child support, a sum he eventually paid.

His ex-wife recently filed court documents in which she said that Kelly had not paid his required child support in the amount of $20,833 a month. A child support/custody hearing has been scheduled for March 27, but Kelly’s lawyer worries the singer may not show up. If he doesn’t, he could face jail time.

If the father or mother of your children is regularly late on child support payments or misses them altogether, you may wish to consult with an attorney experienced in family law. A lawyer can give you advice on how best to proceed in order to collect the payments owed to you in a timely manner. In addition, if you are owed back child support, an attorney may be able to help you collect on the outstanding debt.
